BT, far too many people base their ideas on stereotypes and gossip/rumors/"heard from somebody", etc. When I first moved back here, I was talking to a woman about BF. She felt going downtown was unsafe, yet she told me she hadn't been down there for years! Others obviously reinforced what she thought was true, but actually isn't.

I get the same thing. I catch public transportation to work. The T from the south hills. People are always telling me it’s dangerous. I’ve never had even the most minor of incidents during probably an average of 40 trips each month over the past 12 years.

Never had one incident.

Ha...riding the T is nothing compared to the old trolleys from all over town when people would be taking home fresh fish from Wholey's wrapped in newspaper on a hot July afternoon.

The only business that I keep hearing about that is improving their ventilation systems is movie theaters. I get updates from Cinemark all the time about opening, not opening, pushing back the dates of opening etc. and they talk alot about how they are updating their ventilation in their buildings. Surprising they are the only ones I hear talking about this unless anyone has heard anybody else?

yig, in the PBS documentary about Reconstruction, there's commentary that when Lee surrendered, that's when the Confederacy was born - meaning the current reverence for the "southern culture".
As for NASCAR, it's no surprise it's been a southern thing since it was born out of bootleg whiskey makers using their cars to outrun the federal "revenuers".
hs, I have not seen any other indoor venues actively trying to upgrade their HVAC systems. Then again, HVAC upgrades are not a very "sexy" news topic.
That was in interesting read on looking at and interpreting data, yig. One thing I would like to see is what I'd call the number of "active" cases. In PA, the DoH uses a metric based on if a person known to have cv19 has not died after 30 days, they are considered "recovered".
Right now the "recovered" percentage is 78%. That means of our 100,000+ confirmed cases, there are fewer than 30,000 "active" cases. Using the cumulative count, I think gives the impression that there are many more sick people than there actually are and makes people more panicky than they need to be.

I have noticed that now that cases are going down, the local news is not talking about Covid as much. Typically just see now a blurb on the bottom of the screen of the total cases in PA ( which I saw this morning is 113,590). Nothing about hospitalizations or deaths so my question is now that cases, hospitalizations and deaths are going back down, will bars and restaurants start to open back up again?

Hs I’d say that the reason cases are going down is because bars and restaurants are closed. To me it seems the case numbers directly reflect the status of fine in eating and drinking.

HS Covid talk I rarely watch Laura Ingraham but really enjoyed the beginning of her show I think people with common sense could really follow that information and should really view that Tomorrow night will Biden leading from the start Hypothetical
Track Here in Berks County you can drink if you order food So basically instead of sitting at a bar you sit at a table LOL These people are stupid Places are still full Some places I been totally dismissed the governor and locals said no enforcement will take place So Berks County is on Wolfs watchlist LOL I think the protests spread the virus?

Hs I’d say that the reason cases are going down is because bars and restaurants are closed. To me it seems the case numbers directly reflect the status of fine in eating and drinking. I think lots of people just had cabin fever and went out to socialize. An increase in cases was going to happen regardless, imo, once things opened up.
Here in BF, I've been trying to check out the parking lots of local eateries. The Eat 'n' Park seems to be busy although the parking lot isn't packed. Same with the local Applebee's and Wendy's and Mexican restaurant. The local sports bar had a ton of cars in its lot the other day.
I think cases are very localized. The Shell construction site reported 17 cases and LTC homes have finished mandated testing and are reporting more cases. Walmart is partnering with Quest to open a drive thru testing center at the local store. We'll see if that results in an uptick in cases.

Eh I think dining in is the number one spread factor. Allegheny County closed bars and restaurants again on 7/3 and abt 3 weeks later numbers started dropping. Maybe I look too much into this but that’s a correlation I’m not willing to ignore. I think the state should figure out a way to help businesses still being mandated to close rather than having them all reopen.

I feel awful for the bar owners and workers....I truly do. The government NEEDS to provide that group in particular the ability to close/stay closed and still have a financial safety net for staying closed. This is a unique situatuion.
The mask mandates and restricted hours and enhanced sanitizing processes and limiting customers that the retailers are doing makes those places safe so long as the rules are being followed. Many other things are safe to do so long as social distancing is happening and masks are being worn. No one is calling for all of these places to be "shut down" right now. The bars in particular need to be/stay shut down. Here in Ohio we are doing the 10pm last call (11pm close) for bars to have additional time to sanitize, but that seems like a half measure considering what we know now vs what we knew in April about surface contact. Keeping people safe should be about eliminating mass gatherings and indoor group gatherings, period.
